As part of our event series leading up to the conference in November, we’ve joined forces with the HiFi Club to bring you the talents of Jennifer Cardini.
Originating from France, Cardini grew up surrounded by the sounds of American house and techno. Naturally, it was only a matter of time before she herself took to the decks. Almost twenty years later, she’s still pushing the sounds of house and techno forward. Read on, and get familiar.
1. Cardini was a resident DJ at Le Pulp
For one infamous decade, lesbian club Le Pulp was a significant part of Paris’ electronic music scene. When the club first opened its doors in 1997, Cardini and her colleagues came together to form Le Pulp’s central roster, introducing a highly-diverse crowd to the wonders of Europe’s thriving house and techno revolution.
2. She was also one of the first to play Paris’ notorious Techno Parade
Around the same time that Cardini joined forces with Le Pulp, another symptom of Europe’s newfound electronic fever made itself known – the birth of the Paris Techno Parade. Since its inception in 1998, the parade has drawn hundreds of thousands of revelers for each of its nineteen iterations, a cornucopia of stages precariously perched atop trucks of all shapes and sizes.
3. She runs her own label
Since 2010, Cardini has been running her own label, Correspondant, named after her popular residency at the Rex in Paris. Featuring over fifty releases from names like Red Axes, Patrice Baumel, Man Power as well as Cardini’s own, the label has released many highly respected records over the last seven years.
4. She’s currently one of Resident Advisor’s top 1000 DJs
Having earned a vote of confidence from one of the world’s most respected electronic music publications – and countless adoring fans – Cardini has two decades of experience behind the decks, plus a wealth of experience in production and running her own label.
5. She’s probably played your favorite club
With an illustrious career spanning almost a quarter of a century, Cardini knows a thing or two about rocking a party. With a roster featuring the likes of Berghain, fabric, Studio 88 and Piknic Electronic, watching her at work in a more intimate venue such as HiFi is sure to be something to behold.
6. It’s her first time on the West Coast
Despite having played all over the world, the Canadian West has still somehow eluded Cardini. She’s only played a handful of times in Canada period, including two shows in Montréal this past August. We’re fortunate enough to be hosting her in our own backyard, setting the stage for her to give us a taste of timeless European house and techno.
AEMCON is still a few months away. For those of you that can’t wait, this is the first of many offerings we have in store leading up to the conference.
Let Jennifer Cardini give you a taste of AEMCON on Thursday, September 21 at the HiFi Club. Check out event information and buy tickets here.
